What is the purpose of the Waste Water Treatment SYstem?
Process NON-RADIOACTIVE WASTE STREAMS to remove OIL, GREASE, and SOLIDS prior to discharge to ILLINOIS RIVER

What is the General Flow Path in the WWT building?
Equalization Tank - Oil Skimmer (IN Tank) - Equalization Tank Transfer Pumps - Splitter Box 1 - Flocculator/Clarifier - Splitter Box 2 - Gravity Sand Filter - Clearwell - Sludge Drying Beds - Discharge to ILLINOIS RIVER
What exists in the Equalization tank to separate oil skimmer from teh rest of the tank?
The tank is split by a baffle
What is flocculation?
Gathering of particles by addition of compound for adherence to form larger masses.
What is added to aid in flocculation?
ALUM
What is Equalization?
Collection and storage of inputs prior to processing
What is sedimentation?
Settling out of large particles
What is Filtration?
Filtering to remove suspended solids
What are the two sections of the large above ground WWT tanks called?
Flocculator - inner
Clarifier - outer
What is used in the Gravity Sand Filter as filter media?
2 feet anthracite coal and 12 inches of sand
WHat is used to backwas the filter system?
Filter backwash pumps are in the clearwell and use the clearwell water to backwash sand filter
What exists in the WWT system to ensure that the water is okay for discharge?
Composite sampler
How many sludge drying beds are there?

What is the purpose of the chemical feed system?
This is the alum addition system - aids in flocculation - auto system available although doesn’t currently work. Feeds Alum into splitter Box 1
How does Instrument Air support WWT?
Supplies for operating pneutmatic equipment - compressors, dryers, and controls are in the building
What is the WWT Hydropneumatic system for?
Located on the mezz level above WWT Control panel
Uses well water from well water tank gravty flows.
