WHat is the purpose of the RBCCW system?

A

Used to cool Reactor Auxiliary systems and related equipment and minimize release of radioactive material to the environs

How does RBCCW support controlling the release of radioactive materials?

A

Operates at a lower pressure than the loads it services - all leakage is into RBCCW.
Operates at a lower pressure thant Service water which provides the cooling for RBCCW, so RBCCW does not leak out.

There is one TCV per Hx, located near SW inlet to Hx. TE located at RBCCW outlet

A

2:
On each unit, there must be the same number of Hx and pumps in service.
If more Hx than pumps then pump load would approach runout
If More Pps thant Hx, then flow would exceed design capability of Hx and have excessive vibrations

How does RBCCW React to a 4kV Bus Load Shed?

A

Unit Pps : They do not load shed off unless the 4kV-1 bus power supply lost AND CS initiation signal present. Must be manually restarted
2/3 Pp trips on 24-1 or 34-1

A

~4” above centerline - auto make-up

What is the impact to RR with loss of RBCCW?

A

Loss of cooling to motor and pump seals. - bearing damage may occur and must be tripped in ~1 minute

What is the Impact of loss of RBCCW to the DW Coolers?

A

No cooling, DW pressure will increase - scram at 2psig

A

Nothing - Only supplied by Unit 2.

What must be done to RBCCW if LOCA w/ DW >2#?

A

RBCCW must be isolated to prevent DW Hi Pressure release back to Expansion tank - RBCCW has no PCIS isolations so isolation must be manual.
DO NOT RE-establish flow to DW due to Water Hammer Risk -
