Hydrogen Addition Flashcards

1
Q

What is the purpose of the Hydrogen Addition System?

A

Supplies h2 to Rx coolant to minimize free oxygen available to primary system, resulting in decreased susceptibility of reactor materials to IGSCC

Q

What will cause a HAS Trip?

A

U2 & 3:
H2 at 50% LEL at 1 out of 8 switches for 5 seconds
Rx Scram
O2 <5% dwnstrm of Recombiner for 10 seconds
O2 >45% dwnstrm Recombiner for 10 sec
Manual Trip
Feedwater Flow 3 scfm over required for 10 sec

U3 Only
Closure of Chimney Isolation Valve
O2 <2scfm below 0.5 H2 Injection Rate for 60 sec

15
Q

What is the drawback of H2 addition?

A

Can increase rad levels by factor of 5 due to increased N-16 concentration

16
Q

What is the purpose of the HAS FCV and how does it control?

A

Two redundant FCV trains Used to control flow of H2 to the system:
PLC adjusts flow proportional to FW flow;
throttles closed as result of downstream leak.

17
Q

How is O2 injection controlled?

A

Dependent on H2 flow; O2 flow = H2 flow / 1.85

18
Q

When is HAS typically in service and when is it required?

A

should be in service by 10% FW flow (>1.2Mlbm/hr) and REQUIRED at 20%
