HC8 Social influence dynamics and antisocial behavior Flashcards
(14 cards)
Social selection
Similarity attraction, selection based on gender, age, behavior etc.
Social influence
Socialization, increasing similarity during contact because you imitate each other bc there are rewards
Deviant training
Has a certain norm set, criminality is normal, supported and socially rewarding
Socialization - Kandel
Homophily in behavior and attitude. growing towards each other and becoming alike.
Repulsion
Aversion to those who are different. narrowing the pool of friendship options to those who are alike.
Network data
Mapping social network and relationship. Dyadic: one person to another. Ego network: multiple relationships of an individual and relationships onderling
Round robin: each individual reports about each individual
Longitudinal: during time and changes reporting about relationships
Maturity gap - Moffitt
Physical age and mental age don’t align and you want more than you can actually do so you’ll show more risk behavior.
Adolescence peak in criminality
More peers, less parents, more amygdala, less prefrontal cortex, more risks, more exposure, less supervision, more social mimicry, social status, more rewards
Romantic partners and criminality - positive
Either turning points bc you have more to loose, more support, positive social learning, maturity, higher costs etc.
Social dynamics of aggression
Aggressive people are selected less: more social exclusion meaning that they’ll connect with other excluded, aggressive people. They influence each other. Stronger on instrumental than reactive agression
Social dynamics of psychopathy
Social exclusion, isolation, rejection. OR people with low selfesteem surround theirselves with psychopaths (Factor 1 traits). More selection and influence
Romantic partners and criminality - negative
Wwhen spouse shows criminal behavior as well, more criminality, support for bad, reward etc. Possibly even pressured into offending
Attraction towards a convict
Similarity, social learning, need to belong, no supervision, no support, clear rewards, lack of alternatives when you are also a convict (women)
Need for status and affection
Status priority and no affection goals: more aggressive behaviors. in adolescence. In adulthood workplace agression bc of weaker affection goals. Status goals are unrelated.
Intimate partner violence is unrelated to both.
