What triggered the war of the 2nd Coalition?
-Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign: Invaded Malta which annoyed Russia, and Austria used his invasion to join with Britain, Ottoman Empire, Russia, Prussia and Italian states (papal states and Naples)
What did Napoleon do when he heard of the second coalition’s attacks?
-Left his soldiers in Egypt in August 1799 and returned home : told people of his successes and therefore his failures were unknown
When Napoleon arrived back in France in October 1799, what was the state of France?
-enemy troops had been repelled and Russia had withdrawn from the Coalition
-Napoleon was greeted as a savior and hero as his failures in Egypt were unknown

-Forced loan placed upon the rich to fund the war effort
