Why did Abbe Sieyes want to overthrow the Directory?
-Thought that the executive was took weak to function properly and was critical of the constitution of Year III which made Directory paralysed
When was Lucien Bonaparte made president of the council of 500 and why is this significant?
-Msde president of the council of 500 in Ocotber 1799
-Significant as NB had just returned to France at this time and therefore they could begin the plot to have NB take over
Why did the council of 500 go to Saint-Cloud?
-Convinced by Lucien and Abbe Sieyes that there was a Jacobin plot being formed within Paris and that they had to escape the Parisian mob
-At Saint Cloud, they were under the “protection” of NB and Murat (army general)
How did NB almpst bungle the coup of Brumaire?
-Acted impatiently and told the council of 500 to step down: was met with cries of being a dictator and was physically attacked
How did Lucien Bonaparte save the coup of Brumaire from failing?
-Convinced the council of Jacobin tyranny and that they should step down; saving his brother
-10 November: a 3 man executive was established
What was the significance of the coup of Brumaire?
-Fall of the Directory and last revolutionary government
-New constitution of Year VIII on the 15th December 1799
-Napoleon = first counsul with executive power
