Measuring Transpiration And Stomata Flashcards
(2 cards)
1
Q
How do you estimate the rate of transpiration?
A
By measuring the uptake of water by a plant
2
Q
What are guard cells adapted to do to the stomata? How are they adapted to do this?
A
Guard cells are adapted to open and close the stomata. They have a kidney shape which opens and closes the stomata in a leaf. When the plant has lots of water, the guard cells fill with it, and go plump and turgid. This makes the stomata open so gases can be exchanged for photosynthesis.
