Q

what happens before mitosis must occur?

A

these chromosomes must be replicated to double the amount of genetic material in the nucleus

Q

what happens to the X shaped chromosomes?

A

they are then pulled apart- one half of each being pulled to either end of the cell

Q

what happens once the chromosomes are pulled to separate ends of the cell?

A

the cytoplasm and membrane split- resulting in two genetically identical diploid daughter cells which contain the same chromosome number as the parent cell
