Q
what are relines and their types
A
- Relines are carried out when the fitting surface is inadequate, denture loose fitting but teeth aren’t worn and in good condition – new base material is added to the fitting surface to fill the space which exists between the original denture contour and the altered tissue contour
o Temporary – grossly ill-fitting dentures, immediate denture, after implant surgery
o Soft – useful for parafunctional habits, atrophic ridges and cancer/cleft patients (obturators)
o Permanent – heat-cure acrylic, useful in peripheral seal problems, prolongs lifespan of denture
