tx plan for child caries
o Caries
Discuss findings of decay on childs teeth and that this is caused by a build up of plaque bacteria on the childs teeth which feed on sugars, producing acid which breaks down the surfaces of teeth
If allowed to progress, decay can spread and cause pain and infection
Management can include prevention and monitor, fissure sealant, removal of caries and placement of a filling, placement of a stainless steel crown, or even extraction of teeth
Which of these options is chosen will depend on how well your child will be able to cooperate. Options include under LA, sedation or GA
Enhance prevention – TB, diet, Fluoride
tx plan for mucocele
o Mucocele
Swelling in the mucosa filled with saliva, caused by obstruction of a minor salivary gland
Commonly found in lower lip or junction of hard/soft palate
Swelling usually doesn’t produce any symptoms and doesn’t require treatment, whould go down by itself
However if it remains fixed in size it may need to be removed
tx plan for PA pathology
Usually means that there is infection at the tip of the root of a tooth, which can lead to an abscess
Teeth showing this usually need to be RCT or XLA
tx plan for hypodontia
Congenital absence of one or more teeth
Usually L5, U2, U5
Causes – genetic, syndromic (cleft lip and palate), trauma
Presents – delayed or asymmetrical eruption, retained or infra-occluded deciduous teeth, absent deciduous tooth
Associated problems – microdontia, malformation of teeth, spacing, drifting, poor aesthetics, functional problems
Referral to orthodontist to decide how best to plan:
* Missing upper 2:
o Accept
o Restorative alone
o Orthodontics alone
o Combined restorative and ortho
Open space – resin bonded bridge, implant, denture
Close space – simple space closure with composite corners, space closure plus (camouflage)
deal with mother’s complaint about other dentist
o I can’t comment as I wasn’t involved in any of the treatment, however I can understand your frustrations
o If mum wants to complain – state that every practice will have its own standard complaints procedure
o Explain that child is in good care at this practice and we can provide the treatment we have talked about as long as you are happy to do so
