E/O exam – General inspection, asymmetry, MoM, TMJ and Nodes
o Lymph nodes make up the lymphatic system which drains fluid from cells of the body, out into the blood stream. Lymph nodes contain white blood cells and antibodies, which help fight against infection
o Palpation of lymph nodes
 Submental
 Submandibular
 Facial – maxillary, buccinator and supramandibular
 Pre-auricular/parotid
 Post-auricular/Mastoid
 Occipital
 Superficial cervical
 Superior and inferior deep cervical
o Virchow’s node – supraclavicular node located in the left supraclavicular fossa. Enlargement of this is referred to as Trosier’s sign, indicating presence of cancer in the abdomen
o Size, surface, shape, consistency, mobile or matted
