31. How shall you lay a valley with architectural shingles?

1. Continue shingling well across the valley but avoid driving nails into the flashing below. 2. Line the valley with a row of shingles. Lay out the position by snapping a chalk line that runs from the top to the bottom of the valley positioned so it is about 2" above the low point of the valley. Lay a row of shingles up the valley with the bottom edge of the shingle on the chalkline. 3. Lay shingles for the adjoining roof starting at the valley. Position the first shingle of each row so its lower corner lines up with the lower edge of the shingles going up the valley.

32. How shall You install eave and rake edges?

1. Install the gutter apron, rake drip edge. 2. Overlap the eave and rake with roll roofing by about 3/8". 3. Drive nails along the eaves and rake edges every 3" and about 1" from the edges.

33. How shall you install strips of roll roofing?

1. Apply the layer of roofing cement no more than 1/8" thick by trowel. 2. Overlap courses by 2". 3. Nail the top edge with nails spaced approximately 18" apart. 4. Nail the lower edge and ends of the strip, driving the nails on 3" centers placing them at least 3/4" above the seam. 5. Seal the nail holes by covering them with roofing cement.

34. Overlaping roll roofing strips?

1. Overlap at least 5". 2. Apply roofing cement to the entire overlap. 3. Drive a row of nails spaced 4" apart through both layers. Drive 2nd row through both layers spaced 1" from the first.

Overlap the existing roof by 2" on the top and bottom and 6" on the edges.
