Stoichiometry Flashcards

1
Q
Note: to complete any stoich conversion, it must be in mols
*exception is gas -> gas stoich, where we apply avogadro’s law
A
2
Q
define limiting reactant
A
the reactant that yields the lesser amount of product. the LR is entirely used up by the end of the reaction + causes the reaction to end
3
Q
define excess reactant
A
the reactant that could yield the largest amount of product. The excess reactant does not get completely used up.
4
Q
% yield formula
A
actual yield/ theoretical yield x 100
5
Q
formula for calculating % H2O in a hydrate (by chem formula)
A
% = mass of H2O in hydrate/ total mass of hydrate x 100
6
Q
formula for calculating % H2O in a hydrate (by experimental masses)
A
% H2O = mass H2O/ mass hydrate x 100
