TABLE ___SPECIMEN STORAGE GUIDELINES Flashcards
(16 cards)
LOGICAL PATTERNS FOR SAMPLE STORED IN REFRIGERATOR
samples that are delicate, fragile, and easily overgrown
Unpreserved samples need ref to preserve
\
Delicate pathogens like viruses and C. difficile toxins degrade quickly → refrigerate.
Outer ear and respiratory samples are prone to contamination or overgrowth → refrigerate.
LOGICAL PATTERNS FOR SAMPLE STORED IN room temp
more stable or already preserved
Preserved samples don’t need cold (feces, urine).
Sites already colonized by flora or harder tissue (genital, wounds, throat, etc.) can tolerate room temp.
CSF for bacteria is less fragile than viruses → keep at room temp.
