Unit 1 Topic 1.6 - Sensation Flashcards
(5 cards)
Sensation
Is the process of detecting information from the environment that meets a certain threshold and turning that information into NEUROCHEMICAL MESSAGES that the brain can process
Absolute Threshold
When a stimulus can be detected at least 50% of the time
Just-Noticeable Difference
Just-Noticeable Difference is the smallest amount a stimulus must change for a person to notice a difference
WEBER’S LAW
explains how much a stimulus has to change for you to notice it
Ex: holding an object that weighs 100 lb, adding 2 lbs might not be noticeable, but adding 2 lbs to 10 lbs would be very noticeable
Sensory Adaptation
is when your senses become less sensitive to a stimulus after being exposed to it after a while
