Flashcards in Unit 5 Quiz Deck (27):
1

Microscope have

ocular lens

2

ocular lens

magnify by power of (10x)

3

objective lenses

4x- scanning
10x- low
40x- high dry
100x- oil immersion

4

The stage

is the black part on a microscope that the slide sits on

5

The stage clip

is what holds the slide in place on the stage on the microscope

6

Condenser

?

7

Irisdiaphragm lever

regulates how much light comes up through opening.
helps with contrast

8

Coarse Focus Knob

moves the stage up and down

9

Fine Focus Knob

changes clearness/focus

10

LIght source

?

11

Base

?

12

Total magnification

ocular lens (10x) X objective lens (whatever power it is)

13

Field of view

the area you see on the slide when you look through the ocular lens

14

the 4x objective lens has the

largest field of view

15

Depth of Focus

the thickness you can see. It is best on 4x.

16

Contrast

has stains and stands against the white light and colors

17

image orientation

image can get magnified, and inverted (upside down)

18

parfocal imaging

the ability to maintain partial focus when you go from one lens to the next higher lens

19

How to focus the microscope

1. place the slide in the stage clip and center the specimen
2. make sure the 4x objective is in place
3. use the coarse focus knob to raise the stage towards the 4x objective lens.

20

2 types of cells

prokaryotic
and
eukaryotic

21

prokaryotic

-bacteria
-archaea

-very small

-nucleoid

-one type of organelle ---> ribosomes

22

eukaryotic

-plant, fungi, animal, protista

-much larger

-"true nucleus" (membrane around nucleus)

-multiple types of organelles

23

hydrodictyon

type of green algae

24

wet mounts

self made temporary slide.
you throw away the whole slide at the end.

25

Elodea leaf

cell wall
chloroplast

26

cheek cell

cell membrane
nucleus
chloroplast

27

onion

cell wall
nucleus
