Q

Comparison of construction industry with manufacturing industry

A

Manufacturing industry (like planes books…)
Similarities : time frame , design planning bidding manufacturing).
BOth are product driven industries.
Differences:
Manufacturing industries deliveres identical product (mass production system) whereas construction industries delivers unique products.

Ownership: In construction industry the owner gets the process started (AUB for example). (The owner drives the process.)

In manufacturing : the manufacturer is driving everything, the owner is not involved in the process.

The purchase:
In manufacturing the transaction of purchising is based on a finished product. and the transaction is done once.
In construction: the owner purchase several times, he purchased the design , planning ..contract for construction. The purchase is done several time

A

true

17
Q

Management aspect of project

A

the 4 ms (materials , money, machinery, labor)

18
Q

Who are the key players in the construction project

A

Owner, deigner, contractor.
Interaction ( there are contracts between owner and designer, and a contract between owner and contractor.
although no contract between designer and contractor however there is interaction between them clarifications and questions)

19
Q

other players

A

subcontractors (hired by contractors, they are specialized subcontractors)
supppliers of the materials ( contractor buy most of them)

20
Q

technical issues that we face in projects

A

design , capacity….

21
Q

Qulaitative problems and issues ( more difficult to pinpoint responsibility)

A

like labor relations, safety of site , forms of contracts
