First step in process control is planning
Planning as a contractor i will be involved in determining what kind of activities I wanna do, in what sequence, and how,
For example as soon as i get the project I put together a baseline schedule for the project with the method statement (1st step in planning)
Throughout the project there is a lot of planning done
For example they prepare a lookahead schedule (for their own work different from the project schedule), they look ahead for the coming 4 weeeks (focusing on detail the activities
Lookahead schedule
look at the activities mentioned in the main schedule and focus on the next 4 weeks and expand on them in details
To generate lookahead
1-Zoom in to the all over project and determine what kind of activities where we theoratically supposed to do in the coming 4 -6weeks
2- list these activities
3-out of these activities ( I see how much ready i am to deliver them, i choose how much I can do ; i can do less or i can do more ) I may have prerequisites for certain activities , like materials , money , drawings…
4- The non ready activities will be postponed
Why I am doing the lookahead schedule , should n’t it be incoroporated in the all over projecct schedule
No why
1- the all over project schedule is not that detailed
2-the all over project schedule is theoratical and on field nobody knows what really will happen
In construction the baseline schedule works like a refernce , we try as much as possible to comply with it
true
we also update it at end of each month
After planning we execute and collect feedback
like the quality of work (forms), bills , materials forms then u take decision ( this called the control part
project control
Take field data that you have collected (feedback), then you evaluat it and take decision like add more resources add one crane work double shifts….
Decisions will depend on the criticality of the activities
true
the frequency of the project control ( like analyzing repots and feedback and and doing project control ) is done usually on monthly basis
However it totally depends on te criticality of the activities and the project. Also contracts can have their own project control frequency in order not to be delayed if they wait for one month
In reports we look at data date
What point of time this data was collected (What reaaly matters)
run date
when the software was run
performance is connected to the data date
true
Control cycle
Plan execute supervise control and take decisions
