What is the natural history of ARDS?

A
  • End point of many systemic insults - sepsis, inhalation, burns etc.
  • A-C membrane disruption and hyalinisation leading to initial T1 repiratory failure
  • Either normalisation of lung structure and function or progression to a fibroproliferative state/fibrosis
