What are the common causes of haematuria?

A
  • Period, prostate, obstructive uropathy, nephritis, trauma, tumour, TB, thrombosis, bleeding disorders, infection/inflammation, stones
  • Drugs
    • Some can cause red urine without haematuria

How might you manage a patient with significant haematuria?

A
  • Consider admission (clots, retention!)
  • Manual bladder washout with a 3-way catheter
  • Continuous bladder washout to prevent new clot formation
