How is Barrett’s oesophagus diagnosed? What are the management prinicples?

A

Normally diagnosed on endoscopy and biopsy

  • Low-grade dysplasia
    • PPI (esomeprazole) and surveillance
    • RF ablation or surgical treatment of GORD (fundoplication)
  • High-grade dysplasia
    • Oesophagectomy/RF ablation/endoscopic resection depending on extent and type of Barrett’s
    • PPI
