  • Interruption of blood supply to the bone in those with a single blood supply
    • Vascular occlusion and hypercoagulability
    • Bone healing that prevents revascularisation
    • Mechanical stress
  • Femoral head, carpals, talus, humerus

  • Imaging (MRI generally) or histology (gold standard)
  • Medical management
    • Reduction in weight bearing
