Anaerobic glycolysis system (v8 supercar) Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is it
this system involves more complex chemical reactions that partially breaks down the fuel known as muscle gylcogen to release energy via the process of anaerobic glycolysis. Results in the formation of lactic acids
resynthesise rate
Can re synthesise ATP at a fast rate for the continuation of high intensity effort. Between 10 and 75 seconds
Oxygen need
If oxygen is not present it cannot break down and pyruvic acid is formed which then ferments to produce lactate
Intensity of exercise
85-95%
By products
Lactate and H + ions
Anaerobic glycolysis like causes of fatigue
Lactate, Hydrogen ions, ADP and Inorganic phosphate
How can we replenish glycogen
Exercise makes muscles more responsive to insulin, which results in greater intake of glucose from the blood by muscles
Post event glycogen intake within 1 hour
55% restored in the next 5 hours
100% restored within 24 hours (1 day)
Post event glycogen intake 1-2 hours
100% restored within 24-48 hours
(2 days)
Post event glycogen intake 5+ hours
Up to 5 days
