Case Study Flashcards
(6 cards)
You mention in your approach that the high water table was discovered during RIBA Stage 4, what would you suggest for future projects to mitigate risk in the ground?
Undertake Ground Investigation at an earlier stage
You note that you collaborated with the structural engineer to develop a design proposal, what part did you play in this?
My roles to the understand the design proposal and advised on the cost impact.
You mention in option 1 that you advised on a rate of £70m2 for hardcore, how did you calculate this rate?
I reviewed the requirement and benchmarked my rate against retained prices from project with a similar scope.
You mention in option 2 for the bore pile solution that you included a 5% construction risk, please can you describe some examples of what this is likely to cover?
Any unforeseen ground conditions resulting in additional ground remediation works
You mention in option 1 and 3 you said you established the construction periods. How did you do this?
For option 1, I liaised with the project manager to determine a suitable duration allowance for the works, for option 3, I spoke to a specialist contractor who was able to advise on a programme duration
In Table 7, you discuss the load bearing capacity of CFA and helical piles, in practise would you advise a client on the load bearing capacity of structural elements?
No, I would refer the client to the structural engineer for this advice
