Q

What is electronegativity

A

Electronegativity is An atoms ability to attract bonding pair electrons. The higher the force of attraction the more an atom can pull electrons towards itself and the higher the electronegativity

Q

What is atomic radius

A

Atomic radius is the distance from the nucleus to the valence electrons. The larger the atomic radius the farther the valence electrons are from the nucleus and the weaker the force of attraction

Q

What is electron affinity

A

Electron affinity is a measure of the energy need to add an electron to an atom in its gaseous state. The higher the force of attraction the more an electron will be pulled in and the more negative the electron affinity.

Q

Compare acids and bases

A

Acids and bases are both aqueous, conductive, and cause change in pH. Acids are sour and bases are bitter, acids are stingy and bases are slippery, acids turn phenolphthalein from blue to red and bases turn it red to blue

Q

IMFs

A

london dispersion is when electrons occupy positions that create temporary dipoles. They are weakest type of IMF and The attractions are formed by everything. The larger a molecule the more london dispersion it has. Dipole dipole attractions are attractions between the charged ends of polar molecules with the oppositely charged ends of other polar molecules. Hydrogen bonds are formed between hydrogen and C, F or O since the electronegativity difference is the highest. IMFs are weak compared to intramolecular forces.
