cultural variation in attachment Flashcards
(6 cards)
kroonenberg meta analysis procedure
looked at proportions of different types of attachment across countries
looked at differences within countries to find variations within culture
found 32 studies using the strange situation - 8 countries + 15 in america
data then meta analysed
kroonenberg meta analysis findings
secure was most common - 50% in China - 75% in GB
individualist countries were around 14% insecure resistant
collectivist insecure resistant rates above 25%
suggests there are cultural differences effecting the distribution of insecure attachment
variations within countries 150% greater than in other countries - US found that one study was around 46% secure and another was 90%
simonelli procedure
assessed 76 babies at 12 months using the SS to see if attachment rates still match previous studies done in Italy
simonelli findings
50% secure
46% insecure avoidant
may be because more mothers work longer hours stopping them from spending time with children
jin procedure
compared attachment types of 87 korean babies to proportions in other studies
jin findings
found simmilar patterns of secure and insecure attachment - insecure categories different - only one baby was avoidant.
