longitundial study on 165 romanian orphans whos physical, cognitive and emotional development was assessed at 4,6,11, 15 and 22-25 years
control group of 52 adopted english children
english and romanian adoptee study findings
those adopted before 6 months had a mean iq of 102 and adopted after 2 years has mean iq of 77
those adopted after 6 months were disctiminate showing signs of attachment to strangers
supports bowlby and the critical period
effects of institutionalisation
disinhibited attachment

strange situation to assess 95 romanian orphans who had spent majority of life in care
compared to control group of 50 children who never spent time institutionalised
Zenah findings -
only 19% were securely attached whilst 44% had characteristics of disinhibited attachment
