inflammatory disorder causing symmetrical, proximal muscle weakness and characteristic skin lesions

skin features in dermatomyositis
A
photosensitive
macular rash over back and shoulders
heliotrope rash in periorbital region
gottron’s papules- over extensor surface of fingers
extremely dry and scaly hands with linear cracks
nail fold capillary dilatation

A
proximal muscle weakness +/- tenderness
raynauds
respiratory muscle weakness
interstitial lung disease
dysphagia, dysphonia
