Digestive System Part 2 Flashcards
(17 cards)
Main cells that carry out the function of the liver
Hepatocytes
Produces bile
Removes debris and old RBC from blood
4 lobes: Right, left, caudate, quadrate
Liver
Each corner of liver lobule that contains hepatic artery, hepatic portal vein, and bile duct
Portal triad
Leaky capillaries located between hepatic plates
Where blood travels before it drains into central vein
Liver sinusoids
Thin walled muscular sac on ventral surface of liver
Stores and concentrates bile
Gallbladder
Serves both endocrine and exocrine functions
Supplies most of enzymes needed to digest chyme, as well as bicarbonate to neutralize stomach acid
Pancreas
Clusters of secretory cells (acinar cells) that secrete enzyme
Acini
Granules containing inactive enzymes in pancreas
Zymogen granules
Secrete to duodenum via main pancreatic duct
Ducts
Watery alkaline solution pH 8 to neutralize acidic chyme coming from stomach
Contains - trypsin, chymotrypsin, carboxypeptidase
Pancreatic juice
Major organ for digestion and absorption
3 divisions: duodenum, jejunum, ileum
Small intestine
Masses of lymphoid tissue
Bacterial storehouse
Part of MALT immune system
Appendix
Acute inflammation of appendix
Results from blockage of feces and traps bacteria
Appendicitis
Largest segment of large intestine
Opens to exterior anus
Anal canal
Three bands of longitudinal smooth muscle
Tenia coli
Pocketlike sacs caused by tone of tenia coli
Haustra
Fat-filled pockets of visceral peritoneum
Epiploic appendages
