other name for hirschsprung disease
congenital anganglionic megacolon
*Absence of parasympathetic ganglionic cells in a segment of the
colon (usually distal end of the intestine).
* Lack of nerve innervations leading to lack of, or alteration in,
peristalsis in the affected part.

causes of HD
commonly exist with other congenital anomalies (usually down’s syndrome / trisomy 21) and anomalies of the urinary tract
clinical minfestation
- cant pass stool
- liquid / RIBBON stools
- fecal vomiting
- irritability / lethargy
- FTT, DHN
- distended abdomen, palpable stool masses
diagnostic tests
- barium enema x- ray
- Rectal manometry
- Rectal biopsy

- sluggishness
