What is the bacterial cause of chlamydia?

A

Chlamydia trachomatis

What are the symptoms of chlamydia?

A

Most people are asymptomatic

Women can have vaginal discharge and burning on urination, vaginal bleeding, painful intercours
Men can have penile discharge, burning on urination and swelling of one or both testicles

What are some complications if chlamydia persists without treatment?

A

Can cause pelvic inflammatory disease leading to infertility

Repeated infections of the eyes can cause trachoma (blindness)

How is chlamydia transmitted?

A

Vaginal, anal or oral sex
During childbirth
Eye infection can be spread by flies or contaminated towels
