Interview part 13 Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is the human respiratory system?
The human respiratory system is a series of organs responsible for taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide (ventilation).
What function has the Pulmonary ventilation?
It is the exchange of gases in the human body, carbondioxide is exchanged with oxygen
Which 2 phases has the pulmonary ventilation?
Inhalation and exhalation
What is the purpose of the respiratory myscles?
Respiratory muscles are responsible for the changes in the shape of the thoracic cavity that causes the air movements involved in breathing
Which pressures are involved in pulmonary respiration?
- Atmospheric pressure
- Intraalveolar (intrapulmonary) pressure
- Intrapleural pressure
How does inhalation start?
It begins with the contraction of the diaphragm, which forms the floor of the thoracic cavity.
Which muscles are responsible of lifting the rib cage up and outwards?
Accessory muscles (diaphragm, sternocleidomastoid muscle, skeletal muscle and external intercostals)
How is oxygen transported in the blood?
in the red blood cells (heamoglobin)
What happens with most of the carbon dioxide in the blood?
About 88 percent of carbon dioxide in the blood is in the form of bicarbonate ion
What does it depend on how many oxygen molecules can be attached to heamoglobin?
The quantity of oxygen bound to hemoglobin is dependent on the partial pressure of oxygen in the lung to which blood is exposed.
What is external respiration?
is the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between an animal and its environment.
What is needed for the exchange between gases in animals for diffusion to occure?
a wet surface
What is internal respiration?
the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between blood and cells in different tissues of an animal’s body
