Interview part 15 Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is the function of the urinary system?
The urinary system produces stores and eliminates urine, the fluid waist excreted by the kidney.
What happens at the glomerulus filtrate (kidney)?
Ultrafiltration occurs when hydrostatic pressure forces blood through a semipermeable membrane, separating the blood and large proteins from the remainder of the serum
What is the function of the proximal convoluted tubule (kidney)?
The proximal convoluted tubule extends from the Bowman´s capsule and is where most selective reabsorption in the nephron occurs. All glucose, amino acids, vitamins and hormones are reabsorbed here, along with most (ca. 80%) of the mineral ions and water
What is the function of the distal convoluted tuble (kidney)?
The distal convoluted tubule is the most distal portion of the nephron and is responsible for the resorption of sodium, water and secretion of hydrogen potassium.
Which hormone has an impact on the urin concentration?
ADH
What is found in the urin and what not?
- No proteins and glucose present
- Urea, water and some vitamins (C and K) will be present
What is Renin-Angiotensin?
It is a hormone system that regulates blood pressure and fluid balance.
What is the Aldosteron (RAA) system?
The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is a signaling pathway responsible for regulating the body’s blood pressure
What is erythropoietin (EPO)?
Erythropoietin (EPO) is a hormone produced by the kidney that promotes the formation of red blood cells by the bone marrow
What is an electrolyte disorder?
Electrolyte disorders result in an imbalance of minerals in the body. For the body to function properly, certain minerals need to be maintained in an even balance. Otherwise, vital body systems, such as the muscles and brain, can be negatively affected. It occures when the kindey has problems with its filtrate/reabsorption.
