Lecture 4 Flashcards
Project control
I wanna see how the project is going ( right direction and right speed)
Is it on time , on budget, is the quality right..
To do the project control i want to spend a lot of time on site monitoring and watching the work and inspecting it
true
Inspecting the work
I have a completed work , i come and test its quality (visual, or using intruments)
quantity surveying
exercise of listing the quantity required at the end of the design for cost estimation
Also i do quantity surveying through out the project for the purpose of knowing my progress in order to know how much shall i pay to the contractor
true
How can we classify project types
Based on function 1-residential 2-commercial 3-mixed residential commercial 4-infrastructure 5-Industrial ( In term of design they all include mechanical,civil,electrical.....)
other ways of classifying projects
New/capital projects
Masri building( demolished then build)
renovation/refurshibment projects
same facility like architecture
Also we have when classifying projects
Greenfield projects
the space was not already built like forest desert..(natural environment)
Brownfield projects/non-greenfield projects
The space was already built
Greenfield vs brown field
Environmental effect/
hydrology more runoff water, more pollution
no recharge of water acquifers.
Also urban heat island effect( concrete absorbs heat quickly and dissipitate it slowly, if u have a look at the night temperatures in the city over years u will see them getting high dramaticaaly while day heat increased much less more ( half degree vs 5 degrees)
concrete takes 12 hrs to reflect the heat
residential
anything of habitation and use
commercial
shops, malls , warehouse
residential and commercial have architectural as the most dense (takes the lead)
true
although commercial and residential are close they might have many differences
Design differences
urban planning
zoning ( what u are allowed to build in certain area)
design features (hospitals has sound proof walls vs commercial spaces)
layout design ( places with a lot of people the circulation plans needs high attention like in malls)
facade (commercial building may have glass facade while residential building don;t have that usually)
Heavy projects (infrastructure)
roads dams, highways…. the dominating here is civil engineering
Industrial projects
depends on the use (powerplants electrical for example)
