Apathy or lack of vitality, Rapid respiratory rate, Rapid or weak and thready pulse, altered mental status, pale, cool, clammy skin, absence of tears when crying, falling BP, Delayed capillary refill

Croup

A

caused by viral illnesses resulting in inflammation of the larynx, trachea, and bronchi
mild fever, hoarseness at night and worse, seal bark cough, difficulty breathing, restlessness, paleness with cyanosis

Care for Croup

A

place in position of comfort
administer high conc. O2 from humidified source
move slowly to the ambulance. cool night air may provide relieve reducing edema in airways

Epiglottitis

A

most commonly caused by bacterial infection produces swelling of epiglottis and partial airway obstruction
sudden onset of high fever, painful swallowing, tripod position

A

contact ALS, immediately transport with patient on parents lap, provide high conc. O2, constantly monitor, and do not place anything in child mouth

Meningitis

A

potentially life-threatening infection of the lining of the brain and spinal cord (the meninges) caused by either bacterial or viral infection
high fever, stiff neck, lethargic, irritability, headache, sensitivity to light, in infants fontanelle unless the child is dehydrated, painful movement, seizures, rash if the infection is bacterial
