What is aquaculture?
the rearing of aquatic animals and organisms
What are agricultural subisidies?
a financial incentive or payment that is given by the government to farmers
What is N.A.F.T.A?
an agreement signed by Canada, Mexico, and the United States that eliminated tariffs and trade barriers between the different countries
What is biodiversity?
the variety of living things in a particular area
What is a food desert?
an urban or rural community that lacks access to affordable, healthy, and fresh food
What is community supported agriculture (CSA)?
a system of farming where consumers directly support local farmers by purchasing shares or subscriptions from the farmer in advance of the growing season
What is food miles?
the distance food is transported from the producer to the consumer
What is urban farming?
small scale farms located in urban/and or suburban areas that cultivated different agricultural products
What is organic farming?
farming that focuses on producing food with natural methods without different chemical fertilizers, pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics, or GMOS
What are fair trade practices and products?
allow consumers to directly purchase from the people who created the product or the farmer who produced the food
What are value-added crops?
agricultural products that have been processed in a way that increases their overall value
