What is acculturation?
when a culture adopts different cultural traits of another culture
(original culture is not modified or lost)
What is assimilation?
when a minority culture adopts a new culture, typically the dominant culture, resulting in a loss of the original culture
(usually done maliciously)
What did the colonial era do?
-led to the spread of different religions, languages, and cultures around the world
What is creolization?
the process of two cultures/languages coming together to create a new third culture/language (traditionally due to colonization)
What is a lingua franca?
a common language used by individuals whose native language is different
What are some historical migrations?

What is a diaspora?
the dispersion of any people from their original homeland (often due to forced migration)
