Modern/Popular culture
-usually in developed spaces
-diffuses by hierarchical diffusion
-often diverse (heterogeneous)
-changes over time
Folk culture
-diffuses through relocation diffusion
-more homogeneous
Indigenous culture
-remain at a geographic location
-still practice their beliefs today
-distinct social and cultural groups
-share a collective ancestral tie to the land where the occupy
What is ethnocentrism?
-analyzing or judging a culture by the standards of one’s own culture
-can lead to negative stereotypes and understandings of another culture
What is cultural relativism?
-analyzing or judging a culture by its own standards
-does not judge the culture based on their OWN cultural standards
-allows for a better understanding of the culture (positive stuff)
What is subculture?
-a smaller culture group within a larger group
-still keeps some fundamental principles though
