What are indications for digital amputation?
A
- Deep digital sepsis / septic arthritis of the distal interphalageal joint
- Retroarticular abscess
- ‘Non healing’ wall lesions
- Toe necrosis (amputation)

What are the 3 methods of digital amputation?
A
- Method 1 = disarticulation, proximal interphalangeal joint
-foot = washed + disinfected, IV regional block w tourniquet - Method 2 = not indicated - disruption of blood supply to second phalanx that is left = prolonged recovery

What are things that can go wrong with arthrodesis(fusion of bones)? (joint resection)
A
- Poor post op care
- Problems with remaining claw
- Ascending infections
- Chronic pain
- Failure to achieve ankylosis of the joint
