  • A public service broadcaster (PSB)
  • NOT funded by the people but owned by them.
  • Set up in 1982 by the UK Government
  • Briefed to ‘create bold content,’ that was creative and take big risks that other channels wouldn’t.
  • Channel 4 stands for providing a voice to minorities and to represent different viewpoints. E.g. Sexuality, ethnicity, disability and gender.
  • These have beem the channels core motives since the 1980s.

  • Channel 4 earned broadcasting rights of the Paralympic games in 2010.
  • First coverage of the games was in 2012.
  • 2012 was also when Channel 4 launched a campaign called ‘Meet the Superhumans.’
  • In 2016, their second campaign was titled ‘We’re the Superhumans.’
  • There are contrasting representations in both adverts compared to the 2020 advert.
