How was social class affected in the 20th century
Pub was centre for working class men at start of the century, still a class division in sport (rugby, football), more middle class participation due to time and money
How was time and money affected in the 20th century
Darts, dominoes and billiards were popular among working class. Gradual increase in leisure time and money. Boom in fitness industry towards end
How was law and order affected in the 20th century
Police force grew and developed, RSPCA introduction removed many animal sports. Rules became stricter in pro sports, stadiums became all seaters in football. CCTV and alcohol banned during games
How was gender affected in the 20th century
Women expected to fulfil traditional roles in early 20th century and seen as weaker sex. Discriminated against and had low media coverage. Only able to perform in feminine sports
WW2 meant women adopted male roles, male spectatorship increased. Women participation increased but were still few pro females compared to males
How was transport affected in the 20th century
Public/private transport became more accessible, spectatorship increased as well as international participation
How was education affected in the 20th century
Schools had focus on physical development. PE was on the curriculum for all schools, and additional activities offered. School sport dominated by upper class private education
