1
Q
Lymphatic system
A
A second vascular network of blind-ended tubules that drain excess fluid, prevent swelling, transport materials and dispose of waste. Lymph is formed when interstitial fluid between body tissues is collected in the lymph capillaries.
2
Q
Lymph
A
Circulates due to contractions of smooth muscle and valves that prevent back flow, transported through lymph nodes.
3
Q
Lymph nodes
A
“Filters” that scan lymph for pathogens. Produces WBCs called lymphocytes that detect and kill pathogens before lymph is returned to blood circulatory system.
