Flashcards in Diabetic Drugs Deck (5):
Central diabetes insipidus
Lack of ADH for vasopressin – give them a synthetic analog of ADH
Desmopressin is the drug of choice to treat central diabetes insipidus
Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus
There is ADH secreted but the receptors are resistant – thiazide diuretics are the drug of choice
Desmopressin-receptor and uses?
Acts on the V2 receptors used in the treatment of central diabetes insipidus
ADH (vasopressin)-receptor and uses?
Stimulates reabsorption of water in the distal tubule and collecting duct but short duration of action
