Flashcards in FFP - Engine Company Operations Chapter 10, 1 and 12 Deck (21):
1

Where are NON-Automatic sprinkler systems normally found?

Old commercial buildings.

2

In a building equipped with both a standpipe system and an automatic sprinkler system, where should the 1st supply line be stretched?

To the standpipe system.

3

If a building is not equipped with a standpipe system what should be the first action of the first arriving engine company during a fire operation?

The 1st line stretched should be a handline.

4

Pump discharge pressure for supplying a sprinkler system should start at how may PSI?

150 PSI.

5

Sprinkler system control valves should only be shutdown upon orders from whom?

The I/C.

6

A LCS is ANY fire stream with a flow of how many gallons per minute (GPM) or more?

300 GPM.

7

What are the three categories of LCS devices?

a) Portable or ground based (Akron N.Y.er multiversal)
b) Engine based (Akron N.Y.er deckpipe)
c) Elevated (Akron N.Y.er ladder pipe
and T/L basket based monitor)

8

The Stang "Intelligiant" monitor used by the Satellite Water Unit is in what LCS category?

Engine based
and provides up to 4700 GPM through a 3 1/2" tip.

9

Kinks......

Are an easier problem to correct than a burst length

10

How is the Akron (aerial) ladder pipe nozzle supplied?

It is supplied by a 3 1/2" hose.
Two supply sources are recommended.
A/L are equipped with two lengths of 3 1/2" hose to supply the ladder pipe.

11

What are indicators of a burst length?

When the engine officer reports there is little or no water AND the ECC sees an adequate pressure reading AND an increased flow showing on the outlet flowmeter
with the pumps RPM's increasing automatically.

12

When water loss due to a burst length is confirmed by any member, what shall they announce over the H/T?

An URGENT message shall be transmitted.

13

Who must take immediate action to correct the burst length?

The engine officer must take immediate action to correct this problem.

14

Who must the engine officer notify when the condition has been corrected?

Notify the I/C and ALL units on the fire floor and floors above.

15

When the nozzle flow is INSUFFICIENT with pressure reading NORMAL or HIGHER and the flowmeter reading REDUCED, what is the problem?

Kinks.

16

When the nozzle flow is SEVERELY INADEQUATE (Officer reporting "Urgent! Loss of water") with pressure reading NORMAL or HIGHER and the flowmeter reading SEVERELY REDUCED/NO READING, what is the problem?

Multiple/Severe kinks.

17

When the nozzle flow is SEVERELY INADEQUATE (Officer reporting "Urgent! Loss of water") with pressure reading Decreasing or remaining the same and engine speed increasing automatically and the flowmeter reading INCREASES HIGH, what is the problem?

A burst length.

18

What does no water at the nozzle while reading increases on the pump outlet flowmeter indicate?

A burst length.

19

When is water shutdown required?

When adding hose to the BACK of the stretch with 1 3/4" or 2 1/2" handline.

20

Water shut down is NOT required when?

When adding hose to the FRONT of the strectch (either 1 3/4" or 2 1/2").

21

Who ensures that the shut off does not accidentally get shut down when adding an 1 3/4" to the stretch?

The engine officer.
