Scalawags- doing the right thing/ sympathize/ seen as bad by the south because they didn’t want change

Carpetbaggers- did the wrong thing/ came to the south to get rich and take advantage of the poor and struggling

Why does reconstruction end?

A

The compromise of 1877 officially ends it/says that the south will accept Rutherford B. Hayes as the last reconstruction president/ the federal troops had to leave the south in return
