The image of an Australian, tough working, laid back bush man, was becoming more and more predominant in the lifestyle of many. Many pieces of writing helped along this sense of Australian society

A

There were many reasons, some were National Defence, immigration concerns, common railway gauges and Reliable Communication. Others, however, were simply because each colony had the same ideas and beliefs and that a national identity was forming.

A

Many people were worried about an invasion of a cheap labour force. Although Australians felt a great loyalty to Britain, they were worried that she was putting her ‘multiracial Empire’ before her ‘white Australia’ and so in 1888 colonial leaders asked Britain to stop the Chinese immigration in Australia.
