Q

glomerulus function

A

Filters blood, creating a fluid called filtrate which is then processed by the nephron to form urine

Q

Why is water regulation so important

A

Cells will lose or gain water through osmosis depending on how many water we have in our body

Q

what is the process for urine formation

A

Blood enters the kidney through the renal artery. As blood passes through the glomerulus it absorb anything small such as water, amino acids and urea but it dont absorb large things like cells or proteins[This process is called ultrafiltration]As substances continue moving through the tubules, they reabsorb things they want which is called selective reabsorption. The things not wanted forms the urine

Q

How are water levels regulated

A

Hypothalamus detects the concentration of water in the bloodstream. If it detects water levels are too low it sends a signal to the pituitary gland to release a hormone called ADH[anti-diuretic hormone] into the bloodstream. It tells the kidneys to reabsorb more water into the blood [water n bloodstream increases] resulting in less urine
