2
Q

How does transpiration occur

A

Water absorbed by roots

Water moves up through the xylem (plant pipe)

Water reaches the leaves

It evaporates from the spongy mesophyll cells inside the leaf

Then it diffuses out through the stomata as water vapour

Q

Why is transpiration important

A

Cools the plant
Transports minerals
Keeps water movings
Maintains water flow Continuous movement keeps cells turgid (firm)

6
Q

How is water pulled up

A

Capillary action

Cohesion (water sticking to water)

Adhesion (water sticking to xylem walls)

Suction force created by evaporation at leaves
