What are key concepts related to errors in clinical observation?
Every observation has sensitivity and specificity; assurance if something is to be found, it will be; if it is found, it is true.
Why is uncertainty inherent in clinical evaluation?
Error increases uncertainty; findings can’t always be expressed in numbers; probabilities are unavoidable.
What measurements are reviewed during the adult/adolescent PE?
Height, weight, BMI, vitals, vision, hearing.
What is examined when the patient is seated with chest exposed?
Anterior chest, lungs, heart, breasts.
What is assessed when the patient is reclining at 45 degrees?

General inspection, chest/lungs/heart, abdomen, head/neck, extremities, genitals/rectum, neurologic, back, behavior.
What steps should be taken during the pediatric physical exam?
Observe parent-child connection, be flexible, inspect while child plays, use parent’s lap for exam.
What is the sequence of exam for children?
Extremities/head/neck → chest/heart/lungs → abdomen/genitals → spine/gait → eyes/ears/nose/mouth/pharynx.
