Flashcards in PERITONEAL REFLECTIONS Deck (11):
1

2 layered

Supports hollow viscous to body wall

Provides a means for neurovascular communication between the organ and the body wall

Viscera with mesentery are mobile

MESENTERY

2

2 layered

Connects viscera to each other or to the body aall

LIGAMENTS

3

Connects the stomach with other viscera

4 layered

Greater curvature of stomach

Abdominal policemen

Extends superiorly, laterally to the left and inferiorly from the GREATER CURVATURE OF THE STOMACH and proximal part of the duodenum

Has 3 parts: GASTROPHRENIC, GASTROSPLENIC, GASTROCOLIC

Greater omentum

4

2 layered

Connects LESSER CURVATURE OF STOMACH, DUODENUM AND PROXIMAL PART OF DUODENUM TO THE LIVER

HEPATOGASTRIC LIGAMENT

HEPATODUODENAL LIGAMENT

Lesser omentum

5

MUST KNOW!!!

Hepatoduodenal ligament conducts the PORTAL TRIAD:

Portal vein lying posterior

CBF lying anterior and to the right

Hepatic artery lying anterior and to the left

6

Inflammation of the parietal peritoneum

Caused by an enlarged gastrointestinal structure or by escape of fluid results in sharp, localized pain over the affected area

May exhibit REBOUND TENDERNESS (pain that is elicited after the pressure of palpation over the affected area is removed) and GUARDING (reflex spasms of abdominal muscles in response to palpation)

7

Inflammation and infection of the peritoneum and commonly occurs due to ruptured appendix, a penetrating abdominal wound, a perforated ulcer or poor sterile technique during surgery

Treated with rinsing the peritoneal cavity with large amounts of sterile saline and administering antibiotics

PERITONITIS

8

Occur after abdominal surgery whereby scar tissue forms and limits the normal movement of the viscera

The surgical separation of adhesions is termed as ADHESIOTOMY

PERITONEAL ADHESIONS

9

Accumulations of fluid in the peritoneal cavity due ti peritonitis from congestion of the venous drainage of the abdomen

Surgical puncture of the peritoneal cavity for aspiration or drainage of fluid is called as PARACENTESIS

ASCITED AND PARACENTESIS

10

Extensions of the visceral peritoneum

Peritoneal reflections

11

During pancreatectomy, the ff arteries should be ligated

Superior mesenteric

Splenic

Gastroduodenal
